In July, we hosted our inaugural Heartland Export Accelerator Public Showcase. Graduates of the program presented to attendees on their companies and what they learned in the program. Launched in Fall 2022, the Heartland Export Accelerator (HEA), powered by World Trade Center – Kansas City, prepares businesses to compete and grow successfully in the global marketplace. Our inaugural showcase event culminates the Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 cohorts. Each company will present their business, their HEA experience, and their global ambitions.

Happy June from World Trade Center – Kansas City! June is Pride Month and supporting Kansas City’s LGBTQ+ owned businesses with their international trade needs is important to our mission.
Business that export earn higher revenues, create more jobs, pay better wages, and are less likely to go out of business. During Pride month, it is important that we ensure equity in trade and strive to make resources available, specifically to LGBTQ+ businesses, to empower them to export.

It’s our favorite time of year at WTC-KC: World Trade Month! During the month of May, we also recognize World Trade Day as part of the larger World Trade Month celebration. Established in 1935 by President Roosevelt, the U.S. has recognized May as World Trade Month, celebrating the importance of international trade to the national economy. Since 1948, World Trade Month has been recognized by Presidential Proclamation. On May 10, WTC-KC is hosting World Trade Day 2023 as a member of the Kansas City International Steering Committee.

Spring is in full swing at the WTC-KC. In March, we were honored to host the trade team from the Canadian Consulate in Chicago for a business roundtable. The team shared insights on the investment relationship between the U.S. and Canada, and on Canada’s biggest industries. Locally, we held our second “Talking Trade” networking event at the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce. WTC-KC, U.S. Commercial Service and Kansas Department of Commerce all presented on the services they provide for Kansas City companies looking to expand internationally.

On March 15, we are hosting a Doing Business with Canada luncheon event featuring the trade team from the Consulate General of Canada in Chicago. The exclusive event will highlight the available opportunities, industry, outlooks and best practices for business success between Kansas City and Canada. We started the year strong by launching a new event series, “Talking Trade: Coffee & Networking.” For this inaugural event, we partnered with the Mid-America LGBT Chamber of Commerce and Shook, Hardy, & Bacon, L.L.P., to bring together a group of businesses and service providers.
