Musical remembrance features violin performance of “Nearer, My God, to Thee” by local, Kansas City artist, Carmen Aguilar

KANSAS CITY, MO – As Titanic: An Immersive Voyage – presented by Hawthorn Bank and produced by internationally-recognized Exhibition Hub – approaches its final days, Union Station pauses in solemn remembrance to honor the lives lost in the historic tragedy with a moving tribute marking the 114th anniversary of the sinking of the “Ship of Dreams.”

The commemoration features a beautifully staged violin performance of “Nearer, My God, to Thee,” the hymn widely believed to be the final song played aboard the Titanic. The piece is performed by violinist Carmen Aguilar on the steps of the exhibition’s recreated ship dock.

“Here at the Station, we think deeply about journeys. Every day, this building stands as a testament to where people have been—and where they dream of going,” said George Guastello, President and CEO of Union Station. “As I stand inside Titanic: An Immersive Voyage, I’m reminded of the passengers’ journeys—each one filled with hope, ambition, and the promise of a new beginning—unaware of the tragedy that would soon unfold. We are proud to be a place where stories are not only preserved but felt. Humanity is the thread that binds us—an enduring, collective heartbeat carried by every person who has passed through these doors, each leaving behind a piece of their story. It is our privilege—and our responsibility—to ensure those stories continue to be told.”

The private performance was recorded and will be shared across Union Station’s social media channels. Guests visiting during the anniversary period will encounter an In Memoriam wreath upon entering the ship experience, setting a reflective tone. The exhibition’s final gallery—the Remembrance Room—invites visitors to leave personal notes in a mirrored space dedicated to honoring those who lost their lives.

With only days remaining before its April 19 closing, Titanic: An Immersive Voyage is expected to rank among the top six most attended exhibitions in Union Station’s history, welcoming nearly 150,000 visitors to date. Guests are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets online in advance, as walk-up availability is expected to be limited or sold out. In response to strong demand, Union Station has added extended hours for the exhibition’s final days.
