LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
Happy July! This month marks two notable milestones: the conclusion of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ and the celebration of the United States’ 250th anniversary. While very different in nature, both highlight the connections that bring people, businesses, and nations together. As we celebrate Independence Day, it’s worth remembering that even some of our most cherished traditions have global roots. Did you know the fireworks lighting up our skies each Fourth of July originated in China? Through centuries of international trade and cultural exchange, they made their way to the United States and became a hallmark of Independence Day. That’s global connectivity at work!

Trade Court Urges Swift Action on Tariff Repayments
A U.S. trade court is urging the Trump administration to speed up the process of refunding tariffs that were ruled unlawful by the Supreme Court earlier this year. During a recent hearing, Judge Richard Eaton of the U.S. Court of International Trade raised concerns that many importers, particularly small businesses, are facing delays in receiving refunds, while larger companies with customs brokers have been better equipped to navigate the process (Reuters).
The tariffs were imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) and were later struck down by the Supreme Court, which found that the administration had exceeded its authority. The decision made an estimated $166–175 billion in collected duties eligible for refunds. Although U.S. Customs and Border Protection has already returned billions of dollars to importers, many claims remain outstanding, and the court is exploring ways to expedite the remaining refunds.
