Local Store Aims to Sell 5,000 Candles to Overcome Economic Challenges

Westwood, KS – ULAH, the locally owned clothing and lifestyle store, is calling on the community to join their “Community Candle Campaign.” This heartfelt initiative aims to sell 5,000 of ULAH’s locally made signature candles by the store’s anniversary on October 19. ULAH, like many small businesses, has faced a challenging year and a half of slower-than-expected sales. This campaign will help ULAH fill the store, again, with the volume and range of products that customers have come to know and love. “Our candles & fragrances are ULAH’s top selling products. We launched our Prairie scent in 2017, a year after we opened, and it quickly became a customer favorite. We followed that success with new fragrances: Desert, Canyon, and Prairie Rose” said Buck Wimberly.

Joey Mendez and Buck Wimberly, co-owners of ULAH, are dedicated to their store and the Kansas City community. For them, ULAH represents more than just a business—it’s a creative outlet, a local gathering spot, and a passion project. Many small businesses across the nation have struggled or been forced to close due to economic challenges. Joey and Buck have remained determined not to follow suit but need support in accomplishing this.

“We’ve seen friends and fellow business owners close their doors, both here in Kansas City and across the country,” Joey explained. “We do not want to be next. We love what we do, and we love our customers, but we need help to restock the store with their favorite brands. That’s why we’re asking our community to come together and support us in reaching our goal of selling 5,000 candles by October 19. The proceeds of this campaign will enable ULAH to return to business as usual.”

The campaign launches today, with candles available to order online or in-store. Due to the volume, orders will have a 2 to 4 week lead time. Customers can choose in-store pickup, and ULAH will notify them when their order is ready, or they can opt for free
shipping on orders of $150 or more. Every purchase will come with a special offer as a thank-you for participating.

In addition to candle sales, ULAH is making this campaign interactive by sharing daily updates with their social media followers. Joey, Buck, and the ULAH team will post campaign progress, milestones, and behind-the-scenes moments to keep the community involved and excited.

“We realize this is a big goal and understand the hard work it will take to make this a success,” Buck said. “We’re optimistic, but we need our friends, family, customers, and professional networks to spread the word. It’s not just about buying a candle—it’s about asking others to do the same and share in our story.”

The “Community Candle Campaign” will run from September 25 through October 19, culminating in a celebration at ULAH’s 8th Anniversary Party. It’s a chance for the Kansas City community to come together and support a small business that has made giving back a part of its DNA.

ULAH’s candles can be purchased both online at ulahkc.com and in-store. The team encourages everyone to follow the campaign’s progress on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, where daily updates will keep the community engaged in reaching the 5,000-candle goal. Every sale, every share, and every candle purchase brings ULAH closer to continuing its mission of offering Kansas City a one-of-a-kind shopping experience.
