KINGSVILLE, MO – The Missouri Humanities Council (MHC) has awarded a grant of $3,100.00 to Powell Gardens, Kansas City’s botanical garden, in support of the project titled “Storytelling in the Garden at the Festival of Butterflies”. The MHC is the only statewide agency in Missouri devoted exclusively to humanities education for citizens of all ages. It has served as a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities since 1971.
The grant will support family programming during Powell Gardens’ Festival of Butterflies (July 16-August 2, 2026). On Saturdays during the festival, families are invited to listen to storytellers Br. John Anderson, Sue Godsey, and Jim Two Crows Wallen. They will share a favorite story every 15 minutes between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday July 18, 24, and August 1.
