KANSAS CITY, MO — On Friday, January 23, Lead to Read KC and the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation will visit Faxon Elementary School to reward students for their commitment to reading. The celebration is part of Read for 15, a citywide campaign encouraging students across Kansas City to read for 15 minutes every day.
From 10:00 to 11:00 AM, students at Faxon Elementary will receive free books, branded swag, and words of encouragement, all aimed at making reading a daily habit and a joyful act. This event is one of several happening across 15 schools in the KC metro area, including schools in KCPS (public and charter), KCKPS, and Center School District.
“We know that reading just 15 minutes a day improves academic success and builds confidence,” said Rhea LeGrande, Executive Director of Lead to Read KC. “In partnership with 15 and the Mahomies Foundation and Patrick Mahomes himself, we’re turning that research into celebration one school, one student, and one book at a time.”
The Read for 15 campaign runs from September through March in select schools across the metro and culminates in a high-energy Reading Rally at the T-Mobile Center. This spring celebration brings together more than 3,000 students for a once-in-a-lifetime literacy experience featuring none other than Patrick Mahomes himself.
Media are invited to attend the January 23 event at Faxon Elementary School, 1320 E 32nd Terr, Kansas City, MO 64109. Interviews with Lead to Read KC representatives, school leaders, and select students will be available.
