KC Chamber Supports Passage of Ronald McDonald House Expansion on April 8
Public Policy

The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce supports the upcoming ballot initiative, Question 2, which Kansas City, Missouri voters will decide on April 8. This measure proposes the sale of 3.42 acres of city parkland to Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Kansas City, facilitating a vital expansion of their Longfellow House near East 25th Street and Gillham Road.

RMHC provides indispensable support to families with children undergoing medical treatment, offering them a comforting place to stay at no cost. In 2024 alone, RMHC had to turn away nearly 700 families due to space limitations. The planned expansion will add at least 40 rooms, enabling the charity to serve approximately 1,400 more families each year.

Importantly, this initiative will not impose any financial burden on taxpayers. RMHC will purchase the land and fund the construction entirely through private donations. Additionally, 1.5 acres of the acquired land will remain green space, accessible to the public, preserving community recreational areas.

Supporting Question 2 reflects the KC Chamber’s dedication to strengthening community well-being and expanding access to essential services for families facing medical challenges. Voting “YES” on April 8 will help create a more supportive and compassionate Kansas City for families in need.
