OVERLAND PARK, KAN. – (Oct. 23, 2024) – HCA Midwest Health, the area’s largest healthcare provider, announced today that it has achieved more than 100 accolades for clinical excellence from Healthgrades, the #1 site Americans use when searching for a doctor or hospital. Among the extensive distinctions of HCA Midwest Health hospitals, Centerpoint Medical Center and Menorah Medical Center are ranked as “America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Surgical Care.” Research Medical Center is ranked #1 in Missouri for Stroke Care for the second year, an achievement placing it in the upper echelon of hospitals for specialty care nationwide.

Hospitals recognized include Research Medical Center, Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Centerpoint Medical Center, Menorah Medical Center, Lee’s Summit Medical Center and Belton Regional Medical Center. Healthgrades Specialty Excellence Awards places the hospitals among the nation’s top 10% for Vascular, Prostate, Gastrointestinal, Orthopedic, Spine, Joint Replacement and Surgical Care. The awards reflect HCA Midwest Health’s commitment to delivering exceptional care year after year.

HCA Midwest Health’s board-certified surgeons offer a range of expertise with high-quality, compassionate care for inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures, including minimally invasive surgery, resulting in less pain and downtime for patients, allowing them to get back to life and what’s important to them.

HCA Midwest Health’s achievements are based solely on what matters most: patient outcomes. As part of its 2024 hospital assessment, Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for over 30 of the most common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to determine the top performers in specialty care. By offering easy access to objective performance measures, Healthgrades helps consumers find and select a hospital that excels in providing the care they need.

“Out of more than 4,500 hospitals evaluated for specialty care excellence nationwide, HCA Midwest Health is honored to have three hospitals recognized in the top 50 nationally for Vascular Surgery and Surgical Care and three hospitals recognized as top 100 in the country for multiple service lines, including Spine Surgery,” said HCA Midwest Health President Keith Zimmerman. “These awards demonstrate our hospital team’s commitment to implementing innovative, state-of-the-art practices, setting the gold standard of care across all surgical specialties. Additionally, each hospital’s focus on patient safety, quality improvement, advanced surgical techniques and patient outcomes positions us among elite healthcare institutions nationwide. This Healthgrades recognition reinforces our mission to deliver healthier tomorrows to everyone.”

As variation in performance among hospitals continues to grow, it is increasingly important for consumers to seek care at top-rated programs. Healthgrades’ 2025 analysis revealed that if all hospitals as a group performed similarly to five-star hospitals during the 2021-2023 study period, on average, 224,958 lives could potentially have been saved, and 141,692 complications could potentially have been avoided.*

“Healthgrades commends HCA Midwest Health hospitals for their clear commitment to delivering consistently superior patient outcomes in critical service areas,” said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer and head of data science at Healthgrades. “HCA Midwest Health’s leadership, expertise, and unwavering dedication to clinical excellence set a high mark for specialty care in Kansas and Missouri and nationwide.”
