OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — (Sept. 15, 2026) — HCA Midwest Health announced today that Kimberly Swan, MD, MBA, FACOG, has been named Vice President of Graduate Medical Education (GME) for HCA Midwest Health. In her expanded leadership role, Dr. Swan will oversee HCA Midwest Health’s graduate medical education program, including institutional accreditation, sponsoring institution governance and the continued development of residency and fellowship programs.
Dr. Swan brings extensive experience in graduate medical education, physician leadership and academic medicine, with expertise in accreditation, residency program development, faculty development and strategic growth. Since joining the organization as Designated Institutional Official, she has led graduate medical education efforts including institutional accreditation, sponsoring institution governance and the continued growth of residency and fellowship programs. She has worked closely with hospital and physician leaders to strengthen accreditation readiness, enhance faculty development and align graduate medical education with long-term physician workforce needs.

HCA Midwest Health has provided graduate medical education for nearly a decade. The health system’s GME program, launched in 2017, has graduated more than 180 physicians and has continued to expand. In 2026, 12 accredited residency and fellowship programs will train approximately 200 residents and fellows across HCA Midwest Health.
Before moving into GME leadership, Dr. Swan served as associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Kansas School of Medicine and was the founding program director of the HCA Healthcare/Overland Park Regional Medical Center Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program. She led the program from recruitment of its first class through graduation, establishing its educational structure, faculty development and clinical training foundation.

A board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist with fellowship training in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, Dr. Swan earned her medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. She completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver and fellowship training at AdventHealth Celebration in Celebration, Florida. She also earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Saint Mary. Her clinical practice has included complex gynecologic conditions and advanced laparoscopic and robotic-assisted procedures.
Dr. Swan is active in organized medicine and currently serves as president-elect of the Kansas Medical Society. She also holds leadership roles with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Medical Association, with a focus on physician leadership, graduate medical education and improving healthcare for patients and communities.
