SHAWNEE MISSION, Kan. — AdventHealth has launched the AdventHealth Neuroscience Institute, further advancing access to comprehensive neurological care for communities across the Kansas City region.
The AdventHealth Neuroscience Institute brings together specialized physicians, advanced technology and coordinated services to support patients through every stage of neurological care — from diagnosis and treatment to recovery and long-term management.

The AdventHealth Neuroscience Institute includes AdventHealth Medical Group specialists and services focused on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions such as:
- Brain and spine tumors
- Back pain and scoliosis
- Complex and chronic pain
- Stroke recovery and follow-up care
- Memory concerns and cognitive decline
- Seizures and epilepsy
- Tremors and movement disorders
- Neuropathy
- Sleep disorders
- Dizziness and balance conditions
- Chronic headaches and migraines
“We are creating a more connected neuroscience program that supports patients across the full continuum of care,” said Weston Elder, executive director of neuroscience. “Our teams combine clinical expertise with minimally invasive technology and advanced treatment options to help patients achieve the best possible outcomes.”
Since 2024, AdventHealth has expanded its neuroscience capabilities with the addition of highly specialized physicians representing a broad range of neurological and neurosurgical expertise, including:
- John Croom, MD, PhD — Board-certified neurologist specializing in epilepsy and seizure disorders
- Ronald Fields, MD — Board-certified epileptologist with more than 20 years of experience in advanced epilepsy care
- Ryan Johnson, MD — Board-certified neurologist and fellowship-trained neurophysiologist
- Amandeep Kalra, MD — Board-certified in neuro-oncology, neurology and internal medicine; fellowship-trained in neuro-oncology with expertise in brain and spine tumors
- Jeffrey Kaplan, MD — Board-certified in neurology and psychiatry with expertise in multiple sclerosis and migraines
- Jayson Neil, MD, FAANS, FCNS — Board-certified neurosurgeon and fellowship-trained in spine and skull base surgery
- Matthew Pierson, MD — Board-certified neurosurgeon and fellowship-trained in skull base and cerebrovascular neurosurgery
- Samuel Taylon, MD, FAANS — Board-certified neurosurgeon and fellowship-trained in spine surgery and complex reconstructive spine surgery
AdventHealth also has expanded neuroscience services across Johnson County, including:
- A fourth location for AdventHealth Pain Specialists at Lenexa City Center
- Two new AdventHealth Medical Group Neurology practices in South Overland Park and Lenexa City Center
- A dedicated inpatient Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission
Comprehensive stroke care and endovascular therapy services are expected to be added in fall 2026.

The launch of the AdventHealth Neuroscience Institute follows several recent milestones for AdventHealth in Kansas and the Kansas City region:
- In August 2026, AdventHealth Lenexa City Center will celebrate its one-year anniversary and continue expansion efforts with a new medical office building designed to increase access to care.
- In 2025, AdventHealth Medical Group expanded access to primary care with the addition of 26 providers and the opening of AdventHealth Medical Group Primary Care at State Line, the organization’s first clinic in Missouri. AdventHealth Medical Group also added 68 specialty providers and eight new specialty services. In the first half of 2026, six additional clinics are expected to open across primary and specialty care.
- In December 2025, AdventHealth South Overland Park was named a 2025 Top General Hospital by The Leapfrog Group, marking the second time the hospital received the national patient safety
- In September 2025, comprehensive maternal services returned to AdventHealth Ottawa following a temporary pause in 2023, reinforcing AdventHealth’s commitment to improving access to care in rural communities
