OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – AdventHealth South Overland Park is celebrating five years of providing patient care in the Bluhawk development at 165th Street and U.S. 69 Highway. In October 2021, AdventHealth expanded its freestanding emergency room and medical office building into an inpatient hospital with surgical services, intensive care, heart care, a medical-surgical unit and Birth Center, building upon the emergency care, imaging and laboratory services that first opened on the campus in 2017.
Located at 7820 West 165th Street in Overland Park, AdventHealth South Overland Park opened with 38 inpatient beds and has since expanded to 66 to meet the needs of the growing community. Shortly after opening, the hospital celebrated the first birth in its Birth Center, where more than 2,000 babies have now been welcomed into the world. Over the past five years, the hospital has grown from 150 to 395 team members, cared for thousands of patients, expanded its specialty services and made significant community benefit investments. Together, these milestones reflect AdventHealth South Overland Park’s continued commitment to evolve with the community and provide exceptional, whole-person care close to home.
“Over the past five years, AdventHealth South Overland Park has continued to grow alongside the community we serve, thoughtfully expanding our spaces and services to meet the needs of our patients,” said Dallas Purkeypile, CEO of AdventHealth South Overland Park. “We’re incredibly grateful for the trust our community has placed in us and look forward to continuing our mission of providing exceptional, whole-person care and extending the healing ministry of Christ.”
AdventHealth South Overland Park broke ground in October 2019, and the team worked diligently alongside project partners to maintain the construction timeline throughout the pandemic, recognizing the need to provide care close to home for patients in southern Johnson County and surrounding rural communities.
Services have steadily expanded over the past five years, including an expanded Birth Center, Medical-Surgical Unit (MSU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Progressive Care Unit (PCU), as well as the addition of an operating room, infusion clinic, primary care and a variety of physician specialties, including orthopedics, endocrinology, pulmonology, urology, gastroenterology, neurology and more.
“The South Overland Park campus is a wonderful example of the impact high-quality health care can have on the success and well-being of a community, and we are both humbled and honored to serve patients and families here,” said Sam Huenergardt, CEO of the Mid-America Region of AdventHealth. “Healthy communities help regions thrive, and we are proud to play a part in supporting the rapid growth of the Bluhawk area.”
The community is invited to join AdventHealth South Overland Park team members to celebrate the hospital’s fifth anniversary at its annual Apple Festival on Sunday, October 11, from 1 to 4 pm. More information about this family-friendly event can be found at AdventHealthSOP.com/AppleFestival.
