Steven Starr, MD, Named Interim Chief Medical Officer at North Kansas City Hospital

(North Kansas City, Mo. January 17, 2023) – North Kansas City Hospital and Meritas Health have named Steven Starr, MD, FACC, interim chief medical officer of the hospital. In this role, Dr. Starr’s primary responsibilities will include credentialing and peer review while also representing the medical staff on the leadership team.

Dr. Starr has been a cardiologist with Meritas Health Cardiology since 1994. He serves on the medical staff’s executive and credentials committees, is chair of the cardiovascular subcommittee, and The Joint Commission Comprehensive Cardiac Center physician leader for the hospital. While serving as interim CMO, he will continue to practice as a cardiologist.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as the interim chief medical officer of North Kansas City Hospital,” Dr. Starr said. “I look forward to helping lead the hospital’s efforts to meet the needs of the community we serve.”

Dr. Starr will also collaborate with Kenna Belshe, DO, vice president and chief clinical officer of NKCH and medical director of MH, to align the entire medical staff to the health system’s strategic plan.

“Dr. Starr is a pillar of our cardiology staff and the hospital,” said Stephen Reintjes Sr., MD, president and CEO of NKCH and MH. “He is an excellent physician and an exceptional leader.”

Dr. Starr is an American College of Cardiology fellow and is certified in cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He attended medical school at the University of Kansas, completing his residency, internship and fellowship at KU. He has been in practice for almost 30 years and was honored as one of Kansas City’s top doctors last fall by Ingram’s Magazine.
