The Kansas City Public Schools Board of Directors is Seeking Individuals to Represent KCPS on the Board of Equalization. The deadline for applications is 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024.

The Kansas City Public Schools Board of Directors is currently accepting applications from individuals interested in serving as the school systems, Representative and Alternate on the Jackson County Board of Equalization.

The Jackson County Board of Equalization is an independent Board composed of citizen taxpayers of Jackson County. Its mission is to fully and fairly equalize the value of all real and tangible personal property in the county for purposes of taxation and to provide an appeal forum for taxpayers to correct perceived inequities in the assessment of value. The Board strives to allow taxpayers an efficient, public, unbiased, courteous, and informative manner of addressing grievances surrounding the imposition of taxes by the county.

This appointment encompasses July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025. This representative will serve for a one (1) year term, attend Board of Equalization hearings to hear appeals and rule on the valuation of real estate and business personal property which lies within the boundaries of your district.

Individuals interested in serving on the Board of Equalization will need to complete a resume and application mailed to KCPS, Office of Board Services, 2901 Troost Avenue, Kansas City MO 64109, (attention: Lisa Limberg) 816-418-7621 or by emailing llimberg@kcpublicschools.org.

To be considered, individuals must meet the following qualifications:

  • Reside within the Kansas City Public Schools district boundaries.
  • Have some level of experience as determined by the governing authority of the county as a real estate broker, real estate appraiser, home builder, property developer, lending officer, or investor in real estate before their appointment to the board. (Mo Rev. Stat ยง138.011).
  • Able to show proof of current tax records and meet the county ordinance that no member owe money to Jackson County, Missouri.

The deadline to submit a resume is 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2024. The KCPS Board of Directors will conduct interviews in June 2024 and complete its selection process by June 30, 2024.
