Kansas City, Missouri — A longtime member of the Helzberg School of Management’s faculty and administrative leadership has been named the new dean of the College of Business, Influence, and Information Analysis at Rockhurst University.

The appointment of Myles Gartland, Ph.D., to oversee the college is effective immediately. Gartland has served as the interim dean of the college since last year.

CBIIA encompasses the AACSB-accredited Helzberg School of Management and the departments of strategy and influence, information and mathematical analysis, and public policy and financial management. In this role, Gartland oversees 35 full-time faculty members, 18 degree programs, 1,100 undergraduate and graduate students and revenues of $12 million.

“The CBIIA is charting a path for growth, and I’m honored to have the opportunity to help guide that path,” Gartland said. “By combining the nationally recognized business programs of the Helzberg School of Management with naturally complementary disciplines such as public policy, communication and mathematics, we are offering students a wide range of skills as they seek to become well-rounded, thoughtful leaders ready to take on the world’s most formidable challenges.”

Prior to being named interim dean, Gartland served as the senior director of graduate business programs and strategic innovation at the Helzberg School of Management. He joined Rockhurst University in 2001 as a faculty member, eventually earning the rank of full professor of analytics and management.

Gartland has extensive knowledge of AACSB accreditation standards, issues and processes, leading the Helzberg School in maintaining the gold standard of business school accreditation. He has led a curriculum redesign of the MBA program and was instrumental in establishing two new degree programs, the M.A. in management and the M.S. in business intelligence and analytics.

Gartland’s efforts to continuously update technology in CBIIA classrooms helped ease the transition to remote learning during the pandemic and his external-relations work, in partnership with the University’s advancement team, has resulted in grants for technology, professional development and faculty improvement.

“Knowing as I do Dr. Gartland’s innovative and strategic mindset, I am excited for the future of CBIIA and the ideas for collaboration among the range of disciplines within the college that he brings to the table,” said Doug Dunham, Ph.D., provost and senior vice president of academic affairs.
