Community Invited to Leave its Mark on the New Terminal at Kansas City International Airport, While Helping Neighbors in Need

Edgemoor Infrastructure & Real Estate, its design-build partner Clark | Weitz | Clarkson, and the Kansas City Aviation Department are preparing to celebrate a major construction milestone at the New Terminal project at Kansas City International Airport: completion of structural steel operations. The final steel beams will be placed on the project in early 2021. This milestone, known as “Topping Out,” is a hallmark in the construction industry, and is often accompanied by a steel beam signing to commemorate the conclusion of this element of work and honor the accomplishments of the craftworkers bringing the facility to life.

Supporting the local community is a top priority for the Build KCI Team. As the largest single infrastructure project in the city’s history, the team wanted to provide the community with an opportunity to participate in this historic occasion and in the process, help Kansas Citians impacted by the pandemic.

Together with United Way of Greater Kansas City, the Build KCI team is inviting members of the community to add their names to one of the last beams to be placed in the New Terminal in exchange for a donation to support United Way’s COVID-19 crisis recovery efforts in the region. Due to the significant need in our community, a minimum donation of $25 is suggested, but all donations are appreciated. To participate, members of the community can visit https://www.buildkci.com/signthebeam/ and click on the “Make a Donation” button at the top of the page. They select the contribution amount, enter payment information, and include the name they’d like listed on the beam. Donor names will be added to the beam prior to its installation in the New Terminal in early January.

Build KCI team members are passionate about being good community partners and are keenly aware of the impact that COVID-19 has had on Kansas City. In addition to community contributions, project team members Edgemoor Infrastructure & Real Estate, Clark Construction Group, The Weitz Company, Clarkson Construction Company, Skidmore Owing & Merrill, J.E. Dunn, Capital Electric and U.S. Engineering are making a combined $50,000 donation to the United Way to support its COVID-19 relief efforts.

All donations will go directly to United Way of Greater Kansas City. The team’s hope is that the community will join them in making a meaningful impact at a time when it is needed most.
