AdventHealth Breaks Ground on Lenexa City Center Campus

MERRIAM, Kan. – AdventHealth is expanding to bring additional hospital and emergency services to Lenexa, Kansas. Located at 86th Street and Renner Boulevard, AdventHealth Lenexa City Center will be a 25-acre mixed-use campus with a variety of medical and retail services. The first phase of development will feature the 98-bed hospital and a three-story, 56,000-square-foot medical office building and represents a $247 million investment. The full-service hospital will include an emergency department, surgical services, intensive care unit, heart care and more.

AdventHealth celebrated the health system’s expansion with a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, April 13, which featured remarks by Sam Huenergardt, chief executive officer of AdventHealth’s Mid-America Region, City of Lenexa Mayor Michael Boehm and Dr. Roger Marshall, U.S. Senator for Kansas.

“We are proud to expand our health care network in this growing Lenexa community,” said Huenergardt. “Our whole-person care approach – focusing on body, mind and spirit – sets AdventHealth apart and will be evident throughout this entire campus, which is designed to benefit community members in all stages of health.”

Foundation and grading work began in summer of 2022. The ceremonial turn of the dirt commemorated the official start of construction, with phase one of the project expected to be complete by mid-2025.

To design, build and develop the new campus, AdventHealth has partnered with Henderson Engineers, HKS, Inc. Architects, Bob D. Campbell & Co. and Renaissance Infrastructure Consulting, Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc. and GE Johnson Construction Co.

AdventHealth Lenexa City Center will be the health system’s fourth full-service hospital in Kansas, in addition to AdventHealth Shawnee Mission in Merriam, AdventHealth South Overland Park and AdventHealth Ottawa. AdventHealth has had a campus in Lenexa since 2008 – AdventHealth Lenexa at K-7 and Prairie Star Parkway – which includes the Bariatric Center of Kansas City, an emergency department and a variety of medical offices. AdventHealth Medical Group Primary Care at Lenexa is also located in Lenexa City Center.
