Kansas City, Missouri – In 2018, Académie Lafayette opened the doors to its Armour campus at 201 East Armour Boulevard, home to the former Derrick Thomas Academy. An icon of Kansas City Chiefs football, Derrick Thomas was also known for his commitment to education and the betterment of students across the metro.

On April 10, 2019, Académie Lafayette officially honored Derrick Thomas and the legacy he bestowed upon Kansas City with the dedication of the "Derrick Thomas Memorial Field at Académie Lafayette." The field continues to be a point of pride for Académie Lafayette. Serving as a gathering space for sports and activities, the Derrick Thomas Memorial Field helps to build and strengthen our school community.

As we celebrate a phenomenal Chiefs victory at Super Bowl LVIII, Académie Lafayette also takes time to remember Derrick Thomas. The Derrick Thomas Memorial Field dons the number "58" at its entrance, an homage to this Kansas City legend and a daily reminder of the importance of quality, accessible education options for every child.
