Your Chamber at Work - June 22, 2020

FROM THE KC CHAMBER'S PRESIDENT AND CEO

Hopefully you were one of the hundreds of people able to attend last Thursday’s “Listening Session” where our five panelists shared their experiences as African-Americans in Greater Kansas City.  (We had to increase our Zoom capacity to handle the crowd.)  Moderated by Chamber Board member Bridgette Williams, their testimony was powerful and compelling.  Their first-hand experiences of discrimination and their fear as parents for their children was disturbing.
If you missed it...here is the link to the recording of the session.

The Chamber and the Urban Neighborhood Initiative are planning a second Listening Session this Friday, June 26, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.  Registration for that event Is here.  It will feature a different panel, and will be moderated by Nicole Jacobs Silvey, President & Founder of Connection Coach KC, LLC, and founder of The Roundtable.

Our series will continue with two sessions on the history of structural racism in Kansas City, to be moderated by Gwendolyn Grant, President & CEO of the Urban League of Greater Kansas City.  Those two sessions will be held July 8 (register here) and July 15 (register here).

The series will culminate at our POWER of Diversity Celebration July 29 with a panel discussion titled “Where Do We Go from Here?”

This is a pivotal moment in time for our region and our nation. We need to listen, to understand, and then to act. Join us.
