World Trade Center-Kansas City News: September 2023

A LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

Happy October from WTC-KC. In September, we were honored to be awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for partnership in Export Promotion from the U.S. Department of Commerce at the U.S. Commercial Service’s Building Bridges to Global Markets event. We are proud to continue to work with our partners to promote international business in Kansas City. Additionally, we are excited to celebrate our partner, Missouri Enterprise’s milestone of 40 years serving the community and being a force for innovation and growth in manufacturing in Missouri.

In October, we will welcome the Fall 2023 cohort of the Heartland Export Accelerator program. The cohort includes the following companies:

We look forward to these companies learning from and engaging with our experts to create their own, vetted export plans. Learn more about the Heartland Export Accelerator here. As always, please contact us with any trade needs.

Dispatches from DC

Congressman Andy Barr introduced the Chinese Military and Surveillance Company Sanctions to the House of Representatives. It was passed unanimously out of the House Financial Services Committee. Congressman Barr states that the bill would be “…a crucial tool to cut off financing to PRC firms threatening U.S. national security.” The bill proposes combining the advisory lists the government has with the Treasury’s SDN lists. This includes the Department of Defense’s list that includes all entities that do business with the PLA, which includes many Chinese companies. Entities on this list have their assets frozen and it becomes illegal for persons to engage in transactions with any entity on the list. This could have harmful consequences for American businesses and would make it substantially harder for American companies to do business with and in China. Learn more here.
