A LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

Summer is behind us at the WTC-KC and we are ready for a busy fall. We finished out the summer with a Talking Trade: Coffee & Networking Event at Dentons in partnership with the Heartland Black Chamber. We love connecting with companies and businesses doing business internationally throughout Kansas City. Applications for the fall cohort of the Heartland Export Accelerator have closed. We look forward to welcoming the new cohort in October. As always, please contact us with any trade needs.

This summer marks the three-year anniversary of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), which went into effect in 2020. This agreement replaced the North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). USMCA creates more balanced, reciprocal trade focused on growing the North American economy. The third-year anniversary is significant because it is halfway to the mandatory review in the sixth year of the agreement, 2026. The original agreement was approved for an initial 16-year term, with the possibility of an extension. If the agreement is not renewed in 2026, it could cause uncertainty in economic relations in North America. To date, since the implementation of USMCA, capital investment in North America has increased 134 percent and is showing to have positive impact on all three countries. Focus areas of the agreement include workforce development, engaging SMEs and emergency planning. Learn more about the USMCA here.
