World Trade Center-Kansas City News: March, 2023

A LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

Spring is on the horizon in Kansas City! As a new season begins, WTC-KC is planning for new events to keep the international business community in Kansas City engaged and energized. On March 15, we are hosting a Doing Business with Canada luncheon event featuring the trade team from the Consulate General of Canada in Chicago. The exclusive event will highlight the available opportunities, industry, outlooks and best practices for business success between Kansas City and Canada. Registration and networking will begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by our lunch program at 12:00 p.m. After the program, the trade team will host optional breakout sessions. The event is free to attend but registration is required. The event will be held in the KC Chamber Board Room at Union Station. Register here.

On February 28, the new terminal at the Kansas City International Airport officially opened. The WTC-KC is excited for the increased capacity for international travel the terminal creates and is ready to take advantage of the new opportunities for the region the terminal will provide.

The Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration (ITA) and Amazon have joined forces to create a new collaboration called Go Global with Commerce and Amazon. This partnership exists to help small businesses in the United States expand into global markets and increase sales. Utilizing ITA’s resources and Amazon’s online global marketplace to expand into 21 new countries and markets, this partnership is committed to mobilizing small businesses and individual entrepreneurs from the United States.

Data from the U.S. Census Bureau suggests that the majority of businesses that export goods are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). With this new partnership, the number of SMEs exporting their goods to foreign markets will increase. SMEs are significant drivers of the U.S. economy, and by investing in the international success of these businesses, Go Global with Commerce and Amazon will stimulate economic growth domestically.

This initiative will allow small businesses to reach new economies and gives them the tools to enter these online markets sustainably. Participating U.S. small businesses will have guidance, information, and resources from the ITA at their disposal. The initiative launches with a webinar series focused on specific regions:
