UMB Bank Contributes $2 Million to Seven Non-Profit Organizations

Kansas City-based Community Housing of Wyandotte County and Amethyst Place benefit from year-end gifts

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Jan. 17, 2023) – UMB Bank, a subsidiary of UMB Financial Corp., is pleased to announce a total donation of $2 million to non-profits across its footprint, including $500,000 to local organizations supporting underserved communities’ housing and health needs, economic development efforts and financial stability in Kansas City. Community Housing of Wyandotte County (CHWC) and Amethyst Place received a $300,000 and $200,000 donation to support their missions.

Kansas City Organizations

Community Housing of Wyandotte County (CHWC) works with neighbors of UMB to build an abundant, inclusive and welcoming community where every person can feel at home in a neighborhood they love. Over the last 25 years, CHWC has built, renovated, or repaired more than 500 homes; supported over 500 families in achieving homeownership; and developed community parks, gardens, and arts programs that serve thousands of people a year.

Amethyst Place delivers long-term supportive housing to inspire transformational healing and empowerment of women and children to achieve recovery, reunification, and resilience. Each year, Amethyst Place provides nearly 200 women and children in Kansas City with truly comprehensive, family-centered care to help them overcome the interconnected cycles of poverty, trauma, and substance use to achieve multi-generational impact.

Organizations Outside of Kansas City

Kids In Need of Dentistry (KIND) is a non-profit organization that provides high-quality, affordable dental care to children in need throughout Colorado. KIND focuses on underserved communities to provide and improve the perception of dental care and empower dental health advocacy. For over a century, KIND has helped thousands of children get the dental services they need at a cost their families can afford.

Urban League of St. Louis is the organization’s largest affiliate and the most well-known, impactful non-profit in St. Louis empowering African Americans and others throughout the region in securing economic self-reliance, social equality, and civil rights. The Urban League of St. Louis offers over 55 programs and services prioritizing education excellence, economic opportunity, community empowerment, civil rights advocacy, and public safety and community response.

Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Phoenix focuses on affordable housing, economic development, financial stability, early childcare, and healthy communities. LISC Phoenix works to amplify voices of neighborhoods and to provide resources to place-based partners. The donation will support LISC Phoenix’s housing education, low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) and affordable housing programs.

Metrocare Dallas is the largest provider of mental health services in North Texas, serving over 55,000 adults and children annually. For over 50 years, Metrocare has provided a broad array of services to people with mental health challenges and developmental disabilities. In addition, Metrocare has primary care centers for adults and children, services for veterans and their families, accessible pharmacies, housing, and supportive social services. The donation will support Metrocare housing programs and new campus development.

BankWork$, a CareerWork$ program, serves young adults in under-resourced communities by providing free career training, placement assistance, ongoing industry-specific coaching and access to careers in banking and financial services. BankWork$ has helped and supported more than 4,000 young adults launch their career journey all across the nation. The donation will support the BankWork$ programs in the Dallas, Denver and Phoenix locations.
