KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Oct 12, 2021) – Spectrum today announced Goodwill of Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas has received a $15,000 Spectrum Digital Education grant for digital skills training, as part of its five-year, $7 million commitment to digital education in Spectrum communities across the country.

Goodwill of Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas will use the funding to provide access to a Mobile Workforce Unit, which travels to the highest-need neighborhoods, for on-the-spot digital literacy training. The mobile computer lab features 10 desks and laptops, presentation screens and staff to help people make resumes, conduct a job search or check email. This program brings the training room to community members who lack access to transportation, broadband or resources to attend an on-site class.

“We applaud Goodwill of Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas for their broadband education initiatives and for helping us support efforts that promote digital literacy in the Kansas City area,” said Rahman Khan, Vice President of Community Impact for Charter Communications, Inc., which operates the Spectrum brand of broadband connectivity products. “Through this partnership with Goodwill of Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas, the Spectrum Digital Education program is able to bring essential resources to those in need, and we look forward to working with them on this transformative project.”

In the coming weeks, Spectrum and Goodwill of Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas will hold a celebration event with the Mobile Workforce Unit on location.

“Our goodwill organization is very excited to receive support from Spectrum for us to continue our digital inclusion efforts in the Kansas City community,” stated Katherine Maloney, Director of Workforce Development for MoKan Goodwill. “The use of our Mobile Workforce Unit, digital skills training classes, and digital navigation services are so important as we continue to tackle the digital divide in our region.”

Goodwill of Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas is one of 49 nonprofit organizations that Spectrum is supporting through 2021 Spectrum Digital Education grants. Since launching Spectrum Digital Education in 2017, Spectrum has donated $7 million in cash and in-kind contributions for digital literacy programs reaching nearly 70,000 people in 20 states and Washington, D.C.
