MU Center for Economic and Financial Education offers free workshops on student loans

COLUMBIA, Mo. – A free workshop from University of Missouri Extension will equip financial advisers, counselors, social workers and others to help their clients understand their options with student loans.

“We know that student loan debt is a growing challenge for families, and the complexities can be difficult to navigate,” says Graham McCaulley, co-director of MU Extension’s Center for Economic and Financial Education. “We hope that by reaching out to the financial and helping professionals who work directly with students and their families, we can provide information and resources they can use to help families make the best decisions possible about student loans.”

The workshop, “Student loans: From start to finish,” will provide 3 free CEUs approved by the CFP Board and the Association for Financial Counseling & Planning Education, as well as 3.25 free contact hours or 0.325 CEUs through the MU School of Social Work.

Workshops are offered in several locations: April 11 in Columbia, May 21 in Kansas City, May 23 in Springfield and May 30 in Jackson.

According to MU Extension financial educator Marco Pantoja, topics will include student loan types, loan eligibility, federal loan repayment plans, crisis management, default rehabilitation and online resources. “We cover the whole gamut from loan application through loan repayment,” Pantoja says.
