Introducing the CUKC College of Health Sciences Dean

Cleveland University-Kansas City (CUKC) has announced that Dr. Chris Todden has been named dean of the University’s College of Health Sciences. Todden comes to CUKC from Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan., where he served as the chair of the department of applied health science, and director of the exercise science program.

Todden assumed his duties during the summer term, and will oversee all of the daily academic and administrative responsibilities associated with the health sciences degree programs at CUKC. Dr. Cheryl Carpenter-Davis, vice president of academic affairs at the University, welcomed the addition of Todden and his broad scope of experience.

“Dr. Todden brings over 25 years of experience in administration and teaching in institutions of higher education,” Carpenter-Davis said. “He has a wealth of experience in developing new programs that align with the Cleveland University Kansas City mission of health and wellness. He is an active member on the Committee on Accreditation for the Exercise Sciences and has authored many peer reviewed articles. We are pleased that Dr. Todden has chosen to join our team.”

Todden is a practicing clinician, specializing in rehabilitative exercise and balance. He has extensive service with professional organizations in his field, including the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), ACSM Central States Regional Chapter, and the Mid-American Athletic Trainers’ Association.

“I am honored to serve as the dean of the College of Health Sciences,” Todden said. “It is an exciting time in the history of the university, and I am fortunate to have the strengths of a talented faculty, enthusiastic staff, and promising students. I am both eager and humbled to continue the esteemed work of Dr. Carpenter-Davis, as the University continues to offer exceptional academic opportunities for students pursuing careers in healthcare, human biology and the biological sciences.”

The College of Health Sciences at CUKC offers the Master of Science in Health Education and Promotion, Bachelor of Science in Human Biology, Associate of Arts in Biological Sciences, Associate of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy Assistant, Associate of Applied Science in Radiologic Technology, and a Workplace Health Promotion Certificate.

Todden holds a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Buena Vista University, a master’s in Kinesiology from Western Illinois University, and a Ed.D. in Educational Administration from the University of South Dakota.
