CONGRATS TO 2019 ATHENA AWARD WINNERS

Kathy Nelson, President & CEO of the Greater Kansas City Sports Commission & Foundation, has been selected for the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce’s ATHENA 2019 Leadership Award, and our very own Centurions Alumni, Caitlin O’Byrne Waters, Consultant, CBIZ as the 2019 ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award Recipient.

Both women will be honored at the ATHENA Awards Reception, October 3, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Municipal Auditorium, 301 W. 13th St, KCMO, in the Little Theatre. More than 40 women were nominated. An independent group of community leaders made the selections.

FIRST YEAR SOCIAL

Calling all first years! Join us for a first year social and happy hour on September 11 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at The Grand Rooftop and get to know your class ahead of Retreat. It will be a great opportunity to make more connections, set up car pools and debrief following Kickoff. There will be a few second years there as well to help answer any questions you may have as we launch into the new Centurions year. We hope to see you there! LUC: JEFF HARGROVES

Join us for the first Leadership Up Close event of the year with Kansas City entrepreneur and philanthropist Jeff Hargroves. Jeff is the Founder of ProPharma Group, a global business serving the pharmaceutical industry, which he founded from his home in Fairway, KS in 2001. Since then, the company has grown to 7 offices across the world and nearly 600 employees. Jeff stepped down as CEO in 2018 to focus more on his family and local philanthropy, but remains an active Board Member. Come learn from Jeff’s leadership journey! Join us in community for chat #2 as we learn more about diversity, equity and inclusion and how we can each play a role in shaping the future of the Centurions program. Participants will spend time learning key concept and terms while exploring relative resources. We will have a lot time to have courageous conversations about DEI facilitated by Dr. Rodney D. Join us for this ground-breaking event jointly hosted by the DEI Committees of the Spring and Fall Centurions cohorts in the KC Chamber Board Room. This event is for Spring and Fall actives, plus Alumni. We’ll hear from expert speakers and work in small groups. The event will equip individuals with tools and strategies to be more active DEI advocates, create community among actives and alums, and set the stage for future programming.

PRIVATE WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE TOUR

Don’t miss your chance to participate in the very unique opportunity to get a private tour. Whiteman is the home of the 509th Bomb Wing, which operates and maintains the Air Force's premier weapon system, the B-2 bomber. The B-2 brings massive firepower to bear, in a short time, anywhere on the globe through previously impenetrable defenses. We will tour the Wing Headquarters, get a Bomb Wing Missions Brief, tour a B2 Stealth Bomber and tour the Operation Support Squadron. This tour takes place on November 15 from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. Please see the below special requirements.

Special Requirements: Limited to US citizens only. Full legal name (Last, First, MI), full SSN, Date of Birth, Drivers Licenses Number, State, US Citizenship (Y/N) must be submitted to Lindsay Jarquio via phone (816-374-5493) no later than October 15. In God’s Corner Ministry; Mission: In God's Corner Ministry: Where Mental Health and Faith Connect addresses the stigma of mental illness by offering educational events, a podcast, resources, and support groups.

Kansas City Center For Inclusion; Mission: The Kansas City Center for Inclusion, Inc. (KCCI) is Kansas City’s only LGBTQIA+ community center. Carrying on the work of its predecessors, KCCI strives to live up to its mission of offering a safe and welcoming place for community members, their friends, family members, and allies.

Due West Therapeutic Riding Center; Mission: We are a young, grassroots nonprofit with a wait list for our therapeutic services! We need a hands-on, experienced, driven individual to manage our account, prepare monthly and year-end reports, and complete all filings necessary to be in full compliance with state and federal agencies. We require someone with significant experience in accounting for this position.

LUC: JEFFREY WILLIAMS

Jeffrey Williams has been the Director of City Planning and Development for Kansas City, Missouri (KCMO) since March 2015. He leads a staff of over 130 employees comprised of planners, certified building officials, engineers, architects, landscape architects, plans examiners, permit technicians, construction code inspectors, environmental health specialists, master code professionals and administrative staff that guides the future growth and development of Kansas City, MO – a city that covers 319 square miles with a population of over 464,000 residents. The department handles two primary functions: Planning Services – managing development policy, conducting research, crafting the long-term vision of the City, and administering the process surrounding the public boards involved in land use approval and Development Services – Reviewing plans, issuing permits and enforcing development policies.
