ANNOUNCING THE CENTURIONS SPRING CLASS OF 2022

Congratulations to the Spring Class of 2022

FALL

CIVIL LEADERSHIP

Learning how to foster an environment insulated from that polarization where we can learn from one another despite our different political persuasions is critical to our leadership development. On March 16 at 11:30 a.m., Mary Sanchez and David Oliver will guide us through a discussion on how we can do better and provide a better example for others. It is imperative to foster an environment where different opinions and ideas are respected. But that challenge is not unique to Centurions. The consequences of a polarized political climate are evident in all types of organizations -- from the companies where we work to the boards where we serve. Register here >>

LEADERSHIP UP CLOSE – JOE PALMER

As a follow up from the November educational task force, please join us on March 25 at 4 p.m. for an evening up close with Superintendent Joe Palmer. Mr. Palmer oversees a school system that includes three locations with about 1,300 students from Pre-K through high school and over 150 staff. The Guadalupe Education System, first opened its Charter School, Alta Vista High School, in 1990. The Charter is sponsored by the University of Central Missouri and is one of the largest Charter school programs in the Kansas City area. Mr. Palmer has an admirable record of working with diverse student populations, improving student achievement and strong staff/community engagement. Register here >>

NONPROFIT BOARD BASICS

Many Centurions serve or plan to serve on a board to have a substantial and ongoing impact in our community. Board service is also an effective way to grow your professional network and develop leadership skills.
Set yourself up for success! This is your chance to get the answers to all the questions you have, and some you didn’t even know you had, about serving on a nonprofit board. Luann Feehan, President & CEO of Nonprofit Connect, will explore the basics, challenges and trends of board service. Luann is a Certified BoardSource Governance Trainer and experienced nonprofit board member. This event takes place at Nonprofit Connect on April 21 at 8 a.m. Register here >>

CENTURIONS INFORMATION SESSIONS

Do you know someone who would make an excellent Centurion? Have them join us at an upcoming Centurions Information Session.

The Centurions application is now open and is due June 1, 2020. The application and more information about the Centurions Leadership Program can be found here >>

REMINDER: SIGN UP TO ACCESS SERVICE PROJECTS ON VOLUNTEERMARK

All volunteer opportunities are now open to both classes and are on a first-come, first-served basis. We have moved to one calendar on VolunteerMark that everyone will use to sign up for opportunities. This was the overwhelming feedback that volunteer opportunities are a great way to have both classes connect. This also means that opportunities are open “year-round” for everyone, which we will track by program year (Fall: July 1-June 30 and Spring: Feb 1-Jan 31).

Ready to serve? Check out VolunteerMark for a few opportunities that are still in need of volunteers. Check the calendar regularly as new projects are added weekly and look for newsletter announcements or GroupMe to sign-up for projects in which spots still need to be filled.

Upcoming Projects In Need of Volunteers:

  • March 10: Champions for Health Youth Summit
  • March 14: Habitat for Humanity of KC Restore
  • March 14: HopeBUILDERS Ramp Project
  • March 16: Harvesters
  • March 16: Uplift
  • March 23: MO DECA State Career Development Conference
  • April 7: Genesis Tutoring
  • April 8: Happy Bottoms
