IUC – WELLNESS IN LEADERSHIP

February 20
5 – 6:30 p.m.

Recent studies have reported that over half of the global workforce (53%) feels that they are closer to burnout than they were just five years ago, struggle to maintain work-life balance, and are unable disconnect from work (Harvard Business Review). In addition, this research demonstrates that employees who embrace mental wellness practices increase their performance and productivity. This IUC will focus on leadership wellness, and provide information and techniques on how we as leaders can practice, model, and encourage mental wellness. Presenter information: Pam Hauser is a community teacher for Midwest Alliance of Mindfulness, entrepreneur, and social justice activist.

Polsinelli will provide non-alcoholic beverages. The Curriculum Committee will provide light snacks. Register here >>

NONPROFIT BOARD BASICS

Many Centurions serve or plan to serve on a board to have a substantial and ongoing impact in our community. Board service is also an effective way to grow your professional network and develop leadership skills.

Set yourself up for success! This is your chance to get the answers to all the questions you have, and some you didn’t even know you had, about serving on a nonprofit board. Luann Feehan, President & CEO of Nonprofit Connect, will explore the basics, challenges and trends of board service. Luann is a Certified BoardSource Governance Trainer and experienced nonprofit board member. This event takes place at Nonprofit Connect on April 21 at 8 a.m. Register here >>

REMINDER: SIGN UP TO ACCESS SERVICE PROJECTS ON VOLUNTEERMARK

All volunteer opportunities are now open to both classes and are on a first-come, first-served basis. We have moved to one calendar on VolunteerMark that everyone will use to sign up for opportunities. This was the overwhelming feedback that volunteer opportunities are a great way to have both classes connect. This also means that opportunities are open “year-round” for everyone, which we will track by program year (Fall: July 1-June 30 and Spring: Feb 1-Jan 31).

Ready to serve? Check out VolunteerMark for a few opportunities that are still in need of volunteers. Check the calendar regularly as new projects are added weekly and look for newsletter announcements or GroupMe to sign-up for projects in which spots still need to be filled.

Upcoming Projects In Need of Volunteers:

  • February 8: HopeBUILDERS Ramp Project
  • February 8: Habitat for Humanity
  • February 13: School of Economics at UMB
  • February 15: Red Hot Night
  • February 20: Hispanic Development Fund Essay Workshop
  • February 22: Rotary Club of Independence Mardi Gras 2020
  • February 24: Mail-A-Smile
