LUC: DR. MARVIA JONES

September 16, 2022
8:30-10:00 a.m.

Reinventing Government Administration. Dr. Marvia Jones has been working in the field of Public Health for 15 years with a special interest in violence prevention and health policy, both of which were honed during her time at the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. While at the CDC, she evaluated the effectiveness of prevention tools provided to state and local health departments. In the Policy Office, she developed recommendations for public health best practices, such as the credentialing of community health workers. Before joining KCHD in 2019, Dr. Jones directed programs, policy development, and evaluation at Communities Creating Opportunities.

After two years of focusing on the COVID-19 pandemic, Kansas City’s newly appointed health department director, Marvia Jones, wants the agency to focus on violence prevention as a key agency goal. Before joining the health department, Jones worked in public health and focused on that issue. She also spent time at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Overall, the Kansas City Health Department employs approximately 200 employees dedicated to public health efforts for our city. Register here >>

ALUMNI

ALUMNI DUES

We want to do our best to help you stay connected to fellow alumni. If you would like to continue your Centurions Alumni Association membership, feel free to follow this link to pay online by scrolling down to the "Centurions Invoice Payment" section to pay the $75 alumni dues. On the form, include the code “AD-2022” when it requests an invoice number, and include your first and last name in the notes section so we can pair each payment to the appropriate alumnus. All Apex 2022 graduates were invoiced in early July for the 2022-2023 Alumni dues. If you registered for the Alumni Luncheon you also paid your dues for the upcoming year as part of the fees. If you are unsure if you have paid, please let Katherine know.

Alumni Dues: Please Remember that 100% of alumni dues go toward alumni programming, existing scholarships for active Centurions, and beginning last fall, a new DEI Legacy scholarship opportunity. The Centurions Alumni Association is committed to enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the Centurions program. As a first step in this effort the Centurions Alumni Board has created the DEI Legacy Scholarship. This Scholarship covers the full cost of tuition and trip fees for one professional from a traditionally underrepresented group who is working to create equity within Kansas City. We hope to fund one scholarship per class on an ongoing basis. To help us toward this goal, Alumni dues have increased to $75.

If you require a copy of your invoice for your alumni dues, please contact Katherine Gathje.

Joining the Alumni Association guarantees you a copy of the Alumni Directory once it’s published in the fall. Please stay tuned for more information on upcoming events.
