Each Spring, Centurions hold an Awards Reception honoring leaders who have had an impact on the community with the Bernard Powell Award. This year we are celebrating recipients of these distinguished awards at the Annual Alumni Luncheon, and in the meantime, please nominate using the links below!

More about the Bernard Powell Award: Since 1980, Centurions Leadership Program has recognized alumni who demonstrate outstanding leadership, deep commitment to service and clear passion for the improvement of the Greater Kansas City area in Bernard Powell’s memory. The recipient is selected by a committee of those who previously received the award.

BRUNCH AT TOPGOLF

Join us for golf and brunch at Topgolf on Saturday, April 6 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. This is a Centurions only event with golf and brunch covered, but drinks and additional food are on your own. After a long winter, it’s time to dust of your clubs and hit the links (well bays, actually)!  We look forward to seeing everyone there. Register here >>

LUC: WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE REPRESENTATIVE

Today, Whiteman Air Force Base is the home of the 509th Bomb Wing, which operates and maintains the Air Force’s premier weapon system, the B-2 bomber. The B-2 brings massive firepower to bear, in a short time, anywhere on the globe through previously impenetrable defenses. Join us on Tuesday, April 16 from 3-5 p.m. to meet an Airman and hear the Air Force story. In order to obtain proper security before the event, the registration deadline is April 1. Register here >>

ALL HANDS IN THE COOKIE JAR

Come join us at the Culinary Center of Kansas City on Wednesday, April 17 from 6-9 p.m. for All Hands in the Cookie Jar. Teams create and decorate homemade cookies using the theme of a popular children’s storybook and then decoratively package the cookies with a children’s book for kids in need. Cookies and books will be donated to Ronald McDonald House. There also will be a four-course meal served while cookies are baking. Don’t worry! You don’t have to cook it! The bar will be a cash bar.

Tickets are $50/person. Significant others, friends, and kids are welcome, but we’re capped at 50 people. Please feel free to bring additional books to donate if you would like.

LUC: JULIAN ZUGAZAGOITIA

Join us on Thursday, April 18 from 5:30 – 7 p.m. at the Nelson Atkins Museum to hear from Julián Zugazagoitia. Julian is the Director and CEO of The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, one of the nation’s leading Encyclopedic art museums. Since his arrival in 2010, attendance has grown 43% by engaging the community through superlative exhibitions, ranging from antiquities to contemporary, and more inclusive programming. Born and raised in Mexico City, educated at the Sorbonne and the Ecole du Louvre in France, Zugazagoitia has worked at institutions in the Americas, Europe and Africa. Zugazagoitia is known for inspiring the community with his passion for bringing all of the arts together, for scholarship and education, and for his high energy leadership and collaborative spirit. Today, The Roasterie is regarded as a trendsetter and tastemaker in the regional coffee scene. Since launching The Roasterie, with an ever-expanding customer base of restaurants, coffee shops, and grocery stores and an ever-evolving product line, O'Neill opened the first Roasterie Cafe in 2005, just a few blocks from the basement where it all started. Join us on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at 8 a.m. to hear more from Danny O’Neill.
