Your Chamber At Work - August 21, 2017

As the KCMO City Council continues its deliberations over the language of the ballot proposal on a new KCI terminal, the Chamber sent a letter to each councilmember urging several actions:
  1. To place the issue before the voters in November 2017.
  2. To craft a single, clear ballot question that gives the council the latitude to make the best decision, while assuring voters that the revenue used to pay for the terminal will not include city tax dollars.
  3. If possible, to approve the ballot language unanimously, sending a strong statement to potential voters.
The deadline to submit a ballot proposal for the November election is August 29, so we expect the council to take final action at its meeting this Thursday. Last Thursday, the council narrowly decided to hold the three different ballot proposals for one week, following Councilman Jermaine Reed’s request to give councilmembers time to come to unanimity. (The vote to hold passed 7 to 6.)

Here’s the link to the letter Chamber Chair Karen Daniel and I sent to councilmembers. And here’s a link to the latest video created for our “Better KCI” campaign – keeping Kansas City major league. This is a critical moment in time for our KCI efforts. We would encourage you to reach out to City Council members to express your support for the November election and/or consider attending Thursday’s City Council meeting at 3 p.m. Please reach out if you need additional information.

Companies are honored at a luncheon in January and can promote their level of recognition throughout the year. If you have any questions about Workplace Wellness Certification or the application, please contact Madison Rich,, or call (816) 374-5434. Healthy KC is a partnership between the KC Chamber, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City, and the health-minded Chamber member organizations listed here.
