KC Chamber Endorses November 7 KCI Ballot Measure

The Board of Directors of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce voted unanimously Monday to support the November ballot measure calling for a new single terminal at KCI Airport.
The Chamber originally endorsed the concept of a single terminal in November 2012 – the first local organization to do so. Monday’s vote affirms support of the actual ballot measure.

The Chamber, Kansas City Area Development Council (KCADC), and the Civic Council of Greater Kansas City studied the issue for more than a year, convening a joint committee that met with airport officials, representatives from the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA), the airlines, and more. The three partners have combined for a business-centered education campaign, “A Better KCI,” to educate local businesses and other groups on the need for a new single terminal.

“Over the last several months, Tim Cowden (President & CEO of KCADC) and I have given more than 100 presentations making the business case for a better KCI,” says Joe Reardon, President & CEO of the KC Chamber. “Our focus has been on air service. The airlines have told us they won’t expand their flights into and out of KCI without a new terminal, and that’s detrimental to our many companies that depend on KCI to do business, both domestically and internationally.”

As part of the “A Better KCI” campaign, the three partners created a website,, that includes videos, a list of supporters, and information, and organized a young professionals group to spread the message through social media and networking events.
