134 KC Leaders Head to Boston

Local mayors, county leaders, city officials, and business and nonprofit CEOs are all heading for Boston this weekend for the Greater Kansas City Chamber’s 15th annual Leadership Exchange. The group will spend an intense three days together, learning about education, innovation, health care, transportation, crime, and entrepreneurship in the city nicknamed “Beantown.” They’ll also tour the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and take in a Red Sox game.
“Our Leadership Exchanges actually serve two purposes,” says Joe Reardon, President & CEO of the KC Chamber. “First, it’s an opportunity to learn what another city is doing on topics that relate directly to the Kansas City region. Second, it’s about connection - an opportunity to bring leaders from throughout the area together who often don’t have a chance to meet or interact.”
Matt Condon, CEO of Bardavon and Chair Elect of the Chamber, is leading the Leadership Exchange. An entrepreneur who’s founded two KC-area companies, Condon’s Bardavon is sponsoring a session at MassChallenge, billed as the most startup-friendly accelerator on the planet. He’s excited about the upcoming Boston trip, he told the Chamber Board earlier this week, with 41 “rock star” presenters at 17 different venues.
Here’s a sample of just a few of the scheduled sessions:
Innovating Public Safety: New Perspectives on Handling Crime, featuring Boston’s Director of Public Safety and a Commissioner with the Boston Police Department.
Boston’s Bold Transportation Vision: Go Boston 2030, with speakers including the city’s Chief of Streets and the Massachusetts Secretary of Transportation.
Kendall Square, MIT, The Cambridge Innovation Center, featuring the founder and CEO of the Cambridge Innovation Center, the CEO of IntrinsicBio Life Sciences Consulting, and the Associate Director of the Center for MIT entrepreneurship.
Why Boston Leads the Pack in Education Achievement and Reform, with speakers including the City of Boston’s Chief of Education and the Executive Director of the Academy of the Pacific Rim.
The Boston Leadership Exchange is scheduled for Sunday, September 24 through Tuesday, September 26.
