116 KC Leaders Head To Dallas-Fort Worth For KC Chamber's 14th Leadership Exchange

Transportation, downtown and riverfront development, the sports economy, infrastructure, and university growth and community partnerships are some of the subjects a group of 116 business, civic, and elected leaders from Kansas City will study on the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce annual Leadership Exchange. This year’s destination:  the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

The busy three-day agenda includes:
  • Sessions with the mayors of Dallas and Fort Worth to discuss their cities’ challenges and successes.
  • A look at the confluence of transportation infrastructure as a key to a vibrant economy, with a discussion of Dallas-Fort Worth Airport’s impact and to learn about the region’s strength in transportation infrastructure.
  • A session at Southwest Airlines headquarters at Love Field, to discuss the successful renovation of that airport, a joint effort by the City of Dallas and Southwest.
  • A panel discussion on transportation investment and regional collaboration, featuring a number of North Texas transportation officials.
  • And a discussion on the Dallas regional sports economy, featuring executives from the Dallas Cowboys and Mavericks, and the head of the Dallas Sports Commission, followed by a presentation comparing KC and Dallas from KC Chiefs owner Clark Hunt.
“There’s incredible value in visiting another city to see how they’ve handled challenges similar to ours and how they’ve strategically grown their local economy,” says Joe Reardon, President & CEO of the KC Chamber. “I’m especially interested in our session on DFW Airport – it’s a unique story of planning and development and, coupled with its transportation infrastructure, has been a catalyst for the regional economy. We’ll also be visiting Southwest Airlines headquarters and learn about their partnership with the city of Dallas in renovating Love Field.” Southwest is KCI Airport’s largest carrier, and represented the airlines in recent discussions about KCI’s future.

The 116 member Leadership Exchange delegation departs KCI on Southwest Airlines at 2:00 p.m. Sunday September 25, returning to KCI via Southwest at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27.
